Can be obtained solely online through Red Cross Adult CPR/AED Online (90 day skills requirement not needed to take our WFA course) This course is a combination of classroom learning, scenario driven exercises, and wilderness skill lessons to give you and your team the best chances of identifying and surviving injury or illness in remote settings. You will learn to identify, care for, and manage traumatic and medical emergencies for extended periods of time in a wilderness context. Based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines, this Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course aligns with OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs and incorporates practical Pathfinder School bush skills. This course is designed for anyone who works or spends time in remote environments and will teach you advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away and significantly delayed. Rich has two degrees with honors from UC Santa Barbara and a Masters in Education. He is currently a full-time high school Earth and Space Science teacher in California.Īs a scoutmaster for many years, Rich believes wholeheartedly in the Scout Law and especially in the Scout Motto “Be prepared.” He has guided backpacking treks in the western United States, is a wilderness first aid trainer, and has been a camp medic and Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America. Rich has more than 20 years’ experience as an EMT / WEMT. He has worked for Ventura County, Fillmore City, and Riverside County Fire Departments. He enjoys backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, hunting, teaching wilderness first aid, and sailing. Since then, he has been chasing wild spaces for over 40 years. In addition to Dave Canterbury and additional Pathfinder School instructors, guest instructor Rich Becker will be teaching this class.Ībout Rich Becker - He began his relationship with the wilderness when his family moved to New Jersey next to a seemingly unlimited state forest when he was seven years old.
